West Seattle Decorative Rock Installation Services

Pretty rock piles turn ugly fast if you skip the basics. Wrong size, no edging, fabric in planting beds… and suddenly you’ve got weeds, washouts, and gravel in the lawn. We install decorative rock the right way—clean lines, correct depth, and drainage that actually holds up in West Seattle rain.

We serve Admiral, Alaska Junction, Alki, Fauntleroy, Arbor Heights, Delridge, Gatewood, High Point, Morgan Junction, and Roxhill.

What’s the Problem?

  • Rock wandering into lawn and walkways (no edge restraint or wrong gradation)
  • Weed “pepper” popping through months after install
  • Washouts on slopes and at downspouts; puddles where rock should drain
  • Fabric laid under planting beds choking roots and looking tired
  • Pea gravel paths that skate underfoot and track indoors

What We Install (and where it shines)

  • River rock (1–2”) — dry creek beds, splash pads under downspouts, accent bands
  • Crushed “minus” (¼″–10, ⅜″ minus) — compactable walking paths, firm and stroller-friendly
  • Clean crushed (⅝″ clean, 1¼″ clean)drainage zones where fines would clog
  • Basalt/granite cobble & boulders — edging, step sides, slope hold, visual anchors
  • Pea gravel (⅜″ round) — decorative pockets only; not for slopes or busy walk paths
  • Gravel grid (stabilization cells) — drive strips, alley aprons, or steeper paths that need traction

Fabric policy: geotextile under paths/drive lanes only (separation from clay). No fabric in planting beds—we use mulch + planting density so roots can breathe.

How We Build (so it actually stays put)

  1. Site read — grade, water sources, soil, wind, and traffic patterns
  2. Edge restraint — steel/aluminum edging, stone bands, or concrete mow strip to keep rock where it belongs
  3. Base prep — scrape organics; add/compact crushed rock base for paths/drive lanes
  4. Geotextile (where appropriate) — woven/separation fabric on paths/driveways; never choking plant roots
  5. Set the depth — typical 2–3” finished depth (not starved, not buried)
  6. Drainage dial-in — swales, splash pads, or dry creek routes that move water without moving rock
  7. Place & rake clean — even coverage, tight transition seams, no “thin spots” that will invite weeds

Straight talk: throwing rock over weeds is a 90-day fix. We prep first or we don’t do it.

Coverage Math (order the right amount)

  • 1 cubic yard covers: ~324 sq ft @ 1”, 162 sq ft @ 2”, 108 sq ft @ 3”
  • Example: 450 sq ft path @ 2” → 450 ÷ 162 ≈ 2.8 yd³ → order 3 yd³ (round up for curves/settling)

Details That Make It Last

  • Transitions — neat seams to lawn, pavers, and concrete so you can mow/edge without throwing rock
  • Slope control — jute/coir and rock “check” bands; grids on steeps so it doesn’t creep
  • Window safety — no fling-zone rock near mower passes; we adjust edges or materials accordingly
  • Planting compatibility — choose stone that suits your palette and heat reflection (lighter rock = hotter soil)

Our Annual Maintenance Plan (Your Yard’s Routine)

  • Weed prevention — pre-emergent where appropriate + scheduled hand pulls (IPM-first)
  • Rake & reset — re-level traffic lanes, pull rock back from edges, tidy seams
  • Top-ups — light refresh where rock settles or migrates
  • Drainage checks — clear leaves from dry creeks and splash pads
  • Moss/algae control — shaded areas treated as needed (no pressure blasting fines)

We’re a low-maintenance landscaping crew. Goal: fewer problems between visits and less work for you.

Service Cadences (Pick What Fits)

  • Quarterly — spring/fall reset + two tune-ups
  • Bi-Monthly — best for heavy tree litter, high foot traffic, or slopes

(Fresh installs on slopes or under big conifers? Start monthly for 60–90 days, then taper.)

What Annual Maintenance Includes

  • Edge patrol and re-pin/re-seat where needed
  • Rake-out & redistribution to keep depth consistent
  • Debris removal from dry creeks and drain inlets
  • Spot top-ups; match existing color/gradation
  • Photo updates so you can see the lines stay crisp

Why Annual Maintenance Matters

  • Clean lines = curb appeal that lasts beyond the first month
  • Weed pressure drops when depth and edges stay consistent
  • Safer footing—no marbles-on-concrete path surfaces
  • Lower long-term costs—small top-ups beat full re-dos

How It Works

  1. Free Estimate — photos/video or quick walkthrough; clear, upfront pricing
  2. Design & Materials — pick stone, edges, and any drainage features
  3. Build Day — prep, edges, base (if needed), place rock, clean finish
  4. Follow-Up — simple care tips and a maintenance schedule that fits
