West Seattle Bamboo Removal Services
Running bamboo doesn’t “clean up.” It tunnels—under fences, patios, and into your neighbor’s yard. If you only cut the tops, it comes back twice as mad. We remove bamboo the right way, then keep it down (or contain it) with smart follow-ups.
We serve Admiral, Alaska Junction, Alki, Fauntleroy, Arbor Heights, Delridge, Gatewood, High Point, Morgan Junction, and Roxhill.
What’s the Problem?
- Running bamboo (Phyllostachys types) sending rhizomes under fences and hardscape
- Thick culm clusters you can’t mow or access; shoots popping up 15–20’ away
- Roots cracking edging, heaving paths, and clogging beds
- Prior “trim” jobs that only cut tops—zero rhizome control
Straight talk: there is no one-and-done bamboo job. You either do full removal with follow-ups or install a proper barrier and maintain it.
Our Approach (remove, contain, or convert)
- Identify the type: running vs clumping (e.g., Fargesia). Runners need excavation or containment; clumpers can be reduced or relocated.
- Cut & clear the mass: sectional cut-down, bundle, chip/haul. Safe rigging in tight alleys and slopes.
- Grub rhizomes: systematic trenching to chase main rhizomes; careful around utilities and roots you want to keep.
- Barrier install (contain option): HDPE 60–80 mil bamboo barrier set 24–30” deep, tilted 10–15° outward, with a 2–3” lip above grade. Seams overlapped and bolted/clamped in stainless.
- Edge trench (removal option): temporary inspection trench on property lines to catch strays for 1–2 seasons.
- Backfill & restore: soil regrade, mulch cap, or convert the area to a new bed/path.
- Disposal: haul to green waste—no piles left to re-root.
We call 811 before digging or grinding near services. If neighbor-side bamboo is feeding yours, we’ll coordinate a shared line or barrier.
Our Annual Maintenance Plan (Your Yard’s Routine)
- Resprout patrol — every 4–8 weeks in Year 1 (peak shoot season), taper in Year 2
- Rhizome checks — inspect barrier seams, above-grade lip, and corners; re-tighten as needed
- Edge sweeps — quick trench pass on property lines and along hardscape
- Mulch management — 2–3” cover in former bamboo zones to block light and hold moisture
- Optional spot treatments — IPM-first; only if hand control can’t keep up
We’re a low-maintenance landscaping crew. Goal: fewer problems between visits and less work for you.
Service Cadences (Pick What Fits)
- Quarterly — spring/fall deep clean + two rhizome checks
- Bi-Monthly — best for active runner pressure or recent removals
- Monthly (first 60–90 days) — heavy infestations or fresh barrier installs, then taper
What Annual Maintenance Includes
- Barrier inspection & seam/fastener check
- Cut and remove new shoots before they leaf out (starves rhizomes)
- Edge re-cut and spot trenching where needed
- Mulch top-ups; keep 2–3” depth, pulled back from trunks/stems
- Photo updates + simple resprout log so you see progress
Why Annual Maintenance Matters
- Drains the rhizome bank: cutting shoots early prevents energy recharge
- Catches escapes early: inspection lip + trench = no surprise culms in the lawn
- Protects hardscape: fewer heaves and cracks from sub-grade runners
- Keeps costs down: small, frequent hits beat expensive reclaim jobs
