Bellevue Lawn Aeration & Dethatching Services
Is your lawn looking a bit sad? Maybe it’s overrun with moss or feeling compacted? If your grass can’t breathe or is smothered under thatch, it’s time for a makeover! Our skilled team specializes in core aeration and targeted dethatching to revitalize your lawn. We’ll help it breathe, soak up water, and grow strong roots—all while keeping your beautiful outdoor space intact!
What’s the Challenge?
- A spongy lawn or a thatch layer thicker than ½” that’s choking your roots
- Puddles forming in winter or hard, dry soil in summer; water just won’t soak in
- Thin grass that welcomes moss and weeds like old friends
- Heavy foot traffic from kids, pets, and deliveries compacting your soil
- Newly laid sod sitting on subsoil that hasn’t been properly prepped
How We Make a Difference
- Core Aeration (using hollow tines): We pull out 2–3” plugs that relieve soil compaction, boost air and water flow, and create perfect pockets for new seed growth.
- Dethatching (with a power rake): We remove that dead layer of thatch to let water and nutrients reach the soil. We only dethatch where it’s really necessary, so your grass stays happy!
- Compost Topdress (optional but recommended): A light ¼” layer of compost adds essential nutrients to the soil and helps break down those aeration cores.
- Overseed Option: Want a thicker lawn? We can either slit-seed or broadcast seeds into the newly aerated soil for that lush look.
- Irrigation Tune-Up: We’ll give your irrigation system a quick checkup to ensure your lawn keeps its vibrant gains.
We’re all about your lawn’s health! We adjust mower height and bag all debris during the first cleanup pass after dethatching, so it doesn’t mat back down.
Best Times to Aerate and Dethatch in Bellevue
- Optimal windows: March–May and late August–October are your best bets (cool temps and moist soil create perfect recovery conditions).
- Skip the deep summer unless your irrigation is solid; also avoid when the ground is frozen or too wet in winter.
Quick Reality Checks
- Aeration is different from dethatching. Aeration relieves compaction, while dethatching removes that suffocating layer. Many lawns may only need one of these services.
- What about those cores? Leaving the plugs on the lawn is beneficial as they break down and enrich the soil. If you’d rather have them removed, we can do that too!
- Moss control: Aeration can help, but we’ll give you honest recommendations about balancing shade, drainage, and mowing height.
Simple Coverage & Setup
- Core spacing: We space cores about 2–3” apart, making two passes at different angles in areas of heavy compaction.
- Seed application rates (for overseeding): Use approximately 3–5 lb/1,000 sq ft for rye/fescue blends.
- Topdress calculations: 1 cubic yard covers about 1,296 sq ft @ ¼” thickness.
Aftercare Made Easy
- Water: Lightly irrigate for 3–5 days after aeration; then switch to a deeper watering schedule.
- Mow: Resume mowing when the lawn is dry. Keep grass height at 2.5–3” with a sharp blade for the best results.
- Feed: Only if a soil test shows it’s needed; a compost cap is more beneficial than heavy fertilizers.
- Traffic: Normal use is fine; just avoid sharp turns with heavy equipment for a week after service.
