I worked on front-end design, JavaScript, databases, analytics, and marketing sites. That gave me a pretty strong opinion about software: it should be easy to use, and it should help people get something done.

When I started managing landscaping projects, I used a mix of Excel, Google Docs, Gmail, and Yardbook. Yardbook gave me a place to keep customer information, properties, quotes, and invoices. Each tool worked, but I was moving between them all day. After working in the field, I could spend another four to six hours writing estimates, sending invoices, texting customers, and keeping track of projects.

A close partner started using Jobber and recommended it to me. I tried it, and I could see the value right away. I could add a customer, build a quote, schedule the job, send an invoice, and find the information again without digging through several different apps.

That may sound basic, but when you’re managing a crew and answering customers all day, having everything connected saves a lot of time.

What I actually use

Jobber holds my customer records, property details, quotes, jobs, and invoices. I also use it to email and text customers. If an existing customer calls about another project, I can pull up their history and start from there.

The quotes are a big part of it for me. I can include detailed line items, contract terms, and photos that help a customer understand what we’re proposing. A photo of their service area shows that we looked at the right part of the yard. Photos of materials or past projects can help them picture the result. The branding makes the quote look clean and professional, too.

I later upgraded to the Grow plan because I wanted more control over quote presentation and automated follow-ups. Jobber currently lists advanced quote customization and line-item images among its Grow features. Some follow-up features are available on other plans as well, so I’d check the current plans against what you actually need before paying for an upgrade.

I still use Excel. I still write in Google Docs, and I still talk to people through iMessage when that makes sense. Jobber hasn’t replaced every tool in my business. It’s where I manage the customer record and move a project from request to quote to scheduled job to invoice.

What I don’t love

It isn’t perfect. I tried Jobber’s request form on my website, and I noticed a delay and a flicker as it loaded on some pages. That matters to me because the website is where many customers first contact us. For now, I use a different form for estimate requests.

There are also occasional hiccups, as there are with any software. And the price is a real consideration, especially if you’re just starting out. You don’t need the highest plan simply because it has more features. You need the plan that removes enough work from your day to justify the cost.

Is it worth it?

For my business, yes. I spend less time rebuilding the same quote, searching for a customer’s details, and remembering who needs a follow-up. Customers get a clear quote they can review on their phone, with the scope, photos, and pricing together.

I believe that has helped us win work, though I haven’t measured how much of our conversion rate comes from Jobber itself. The photos, documentation, and fast communication certainly make it easier for customers to understand what they’re approving.

I’d give it a 10 out of 10 for how I use it. That doesn’t mean every contractor needs Jobber, or that I’ve tested every competing product. I used Yardbook before this, and I thought it was a decent option. I chose Jobber because it fit the way I run my landscaping business, and changing systems again would take work.

If you’re still writing paper quotes or piecing together customer information across emails and spreadsheets, it’s worth looking at a CRM. Try a few and pay attention to how quickly you can create a real quote for a real job. Once you choose one, your whole workflow starts to grow around it.

Field note: I have no coupon code, sponsorship, or incentive to promote Jobber. I use it because it saves me time and helps me send better quotes. I still have a few things I’d change, but I’d recommend it to the contractors I work with.

Before I worked in landscaping, I spent more than a decade designing and developing websites and applications.
